THE well-watched Sessionistas of ASAP every Sunday will be bringing their highly entertaining performance to Queens College Colden Auditorium, Flushing, New York, November 15.

Branded as the "biggest jamming affair of the year," Sessionistas - composed of Soul Siren Nina, Acoustic Wonder MYMP (Juris and Chin), R&B Master Duncan Ramos, Big Band Crooner Richard Poon, Bossa Nova Diva Sitti Navarro, and Asian Acoustic Sensation Aiza Seguerra -- will be sharing one concert stage together in a one night grand event at the Queens College Colden Auditorium, Flushing, NY.

Sessionistas is intended to gather the best and highly-popular performers in various music genres into one jamming group.

"We were first seen in ASAP during their first show last January," Aiza said. "It was a great idea to pool together artists from different music genres and be in one group."

Working together in a group has not been difficult for the Sessionistas. They said their gigs in several metro bars have helped them in getting to know each other's company.

"We all really know each other since we sometimes have shows together," said Nina.

For Richard, he said Aiza has greatly helped in bringing them closer. "Dati may ilangan din pero nung pumasok na Aiza siya na yung pampasaya namin. Siya talaga nag-umpisa (ng camaraderie sa amin) (Before there was aloofness but when Aiza entered the group, she always makes us laugh. She started the camaraderie within us)," the Big Band crooner said.

Duncan meanwhile said it is a great factor that they are all musicians. "Somehow, we connect with each other in terms of music."

The Concert

Nina shared that the concert will be sort of same as what they were showcasing in ASAP every Sunday but it will definitely have more entertaining numbers.

"We will have two spot numbers just like how you see us on TV but this time you will be seeing the best of the best. There will also be mix matches in our individual music genres. Like I will be doing bossa while others will sing other genres too. There will be duets and dance numbers which we are not doing in ASAP," the Soul Siren said.

Sitti also had a little revelation as she inadvertently divulged that they will be doing some Madonna and Ricky Martin medley.

She added that they will be arranging into a more comfy venue where the viewers could "feel that they are connected to us." "They are going to dance with us," the bossa nova diva assured.

As a group of established singers, issues on outshining other group members are inevitable. But Sessionistas' members have defended that they have learned to respect each other's fame and singing expertise.

"We help each other rather than overpower one another. We have our own style in singing and we know our capacities. We have different range of voices… Like Nina is our belter so the higher are for her. Juris has an angelic voice while Sitti is the best bossa nova that you think of so our chemistry is really different. The friendships and camaraderie are there so no overpowering others," Richard said.

MYMP female vocal Juris, in addition, said that "I think it's good that we do our best in our performance I don't think the intention is to outshine others but to be good in your own genre. That is your forte so you are supposed to be good at it."

For Sitti, she said it is a great factor that they all came from being a nobody to somebody. She said it is easy for them to understand and respect each other as musicians. "If it's her or his turn to shine, segunda lang kami."

Billing Issue

Asked if there is an issue with them in terms of billing since they are all recognized singers, "There is no issue on billing because we enjoy what we are doing," Aiza candidly said.

She said they obey whatever decision the director and production has decided for the show and the poster. "Sabay sabay kaming papasok (in the concert) at sa closing lahat din kami (We will start the concert together and end it together also."

ASAP Sessionistas Live in NY

The ASAP '09 Sessionistas are all set for a grand concert this coming November 15 at the Queens College, Colden Auditorium in Flushing,NY.

Fans and supporters of the Sessionistas will have the time of their lives as their idols, in one force, perform their favorite songs from different genres.

Set to star in the event are “Soul Siren” Nina, acoustic band MYMP, RnB master Duncan Ramos, Fil-Chinese crooner Richard Poon, bossa nova queen Sitti Navarro and Asia’s acoustic sensation Aiza Seguerra.

Nina said audiences can expect the best live performances, just like on the hit ASAP '09 TV show. “Kung ano ang nakikita nila sa TV, kung ano ang best of the best ng Sessionistas sa TV ay gagawin din po namin ‘yon at marami pang iba,” she said.

Navarro revealed that the concert will also include a Madonna and Ricky Martin song medley. Poon, meanwhile, bared that the singers will try something new – dancing.

The Sessionistas represent a mix of music genres from RnB to acoustic, bossa nova to soul, as well as pop and ballads. In the process, they not only started a famed singing group, but a band of friends.

Seguerra said during their performances for ASAP’09, the group grew close.

“Alam mo ‘yun, kapag papasok ka sa isang bagong grupo may ilangan factor. Pero dahil kaming nagkasasama kami sa ASAP dressing room, sobrang tambay to death hanggang sa nanoonod na kami ng gigs ng isa’t-isa. ‘Yon naging close na,” Seguerra said.

Poon, the seeming leader of the Sessionistas, shot down notions that the singers were competing with each other. “For us kasi, we believe that we should help each other rather than out-power each other,” Poon said.

The “ASAP Sessionistas” concept, launched just this year, aims to bring together into one jamming segment an all -star lineup of the hottest and most in-demand performers.
