PINOY LAUGHFEST - Three (3) stand-up comedians set to conquer New York on Sept. 20

Are you hungry for a new and different type of Filipino entertainment in New York?

Samantha Lopez Productions, Inc. (SLP), a new production outfit like no other, aims to redefine Filipino entertainment from the staple of pop concerts and cultural festivals to showcase its colorful vibrancy, cultural relevance and skillful ingenuity.

SLP also came in at the right time to launch her production outfit. The Filipino market in New York is growing fast. Estimated at 700,000 with neighboring New Jersey, Filipinos are raring to experience something new, fresh and exciting.

The "I love Pinoy logo" is a great start for SLP. The logo, ingenious as it is appropriate, gives the SLP a strong sense of identity and vision for its outfit.

"At the heart of [I love Pinoy logo] is a concept that shows our love for everything Pinoy," says Samantha Lopez, a Filipina who has lived in New York for the past seven years and has maintained a strong sense of pride.

For its major production, SLP chose a most appropriate one, a comedy festival of sorts, as it combines a trio of talented stand-up comedians from different places-Rex Navarrete of Hawaii, Ron Josol of Canada and Air Tabigue of New York, all of Filipino descent.

In the show entitled "A Night of Comedy," SLP is featuring the 3 stand-up comedians together for the very first time on Sept. 20 at the prestigious BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, also perhaps the first time a Pinoy event is being staged.

The show promises to be a night to remember as the three comedians have prepared fresh material for the demanding New York market.

Navarrete, the most recognizable Filipino stand-up comedian, pushes the envelope in his comedy playing up his Pinoy heritage and has performed the longest among the two other performers.

Josol, a Canadian standout, has a comedy style that is a mix between his inexperience as an Asian in the North American entertainment industry and his personal thoughts about life.

Born and raised in Long Island, NY, Tabigue is a fast-rising comedian who makes people laugh with his own wicked New York sense of humor.

Lopez a.ka. GRACIA, a former TVdancer, host /comedienne of popular noontime show, EAT BULAGA, manages a fancy Italian restaurant and upscale shoe store with her equally famous husband, Warren Edwards in New York.

However, she feels very proud of this latest venture, because it is something that allows her to give back to the community.

Lopez's production lineup after this landmark comedy show aims to be even better. It will take new bold directions in Philippine arts, culture and entertainment shows in the greatest city of the world by showcasing Filipino performers and artists not only those in the Philippines but those in the United States as well. These can be in the form of dance, comedy, movies, arts and crafts, food and fashion.

"In the city Pinoys have grown to love as much as its own country, it's time we showcase Pinoy culture served up with a defining New York City twist," says Lopez.

Asked how Pinoys can compete with other great events in the city, Lopez says, "A city this exciting gives many Filipinos so many choices and cultures to take in and blend with their own. But nothing can replace our strong craving for grand Pinoy passions. The thing to do now is share our culture and national pride with other New Yorkers."
