compiled by Herbert Y. Magtoto

Jun Polistico Added to Entertainment Line-up

Known as "Mr. Golden Voice" in his home country, Jun Polistico is one of the best-known entertainers in the modern history of the Philippines. However, he has permanently moved to the United States and is now performing at Fitzgeralds every Thursday through Monday at 9:00 PM.

"The Philippines' loss is our gain," said Gene Sagas, director of entertainment at Fitzgeralds Casino and Hotel. "Jun has a great voice, he is a consummate performer and our great entertainment line-up just got even better."

Although there are more than 10,000 islands in his native land, there is only one entertainment capital in the Philippines, and that is Manila. Raised on the island of Leyte, Polistico started performing at the age of 12. From Leyte, he moved on to Ormoc City and then to Manila as his popularity soared. With a trail of hit songs and gold records, Polistico decided it was time for new challenges and moved to Las Vegas, where he began performing with the well-known Hawaiian group, Society of Seven. Now, fans can see and hear his solo performances five nights a week in Fitzgeralds Showroom.

Often referred to as a "master of the ballad," Polistico's style is a cross between Julio Iglesias and Wayne Newton. Polistico's delivery flows smoothly from a medley of Sinatra and Neil Diamond to Nat King Cole. His songs create a very romantic environment for couples of all ages.

Fitzgeralds is owned by Barden Nevada Gaming, which is the largest minority-owned business in Las Vegas. Fitzgeralds is located at 301 Fremont Street and anchors the east end of the world-famous Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas. The hotel features 638 rooms and offers a variety of dining options including Limericks Steakhouse, Molly's Buffet, Shamrock Cafe, McDonald's and downtown's only Krispy Kreme outlet. The casino features approximately 940 slots, 32 table games, sports book, a 24-hour keno lounge, three bars and daily live entertainment.

Jun Polistico Sings... The Greats... To The Greatest

Every now and again a rare breed of talent emerges... Jun Polistico, par excellence, one of the Philippines' finest balladeers. Hailing from Ormoc, Leyte, Jun Polistico has climbed the ladder of success, not by accident, but because of his innate talent, utmost persistence, unmatched dedication and admirable humility.

Jun Polistico, whose singing style has withstood the test of time, has been touring and entertaining all manner of audiences with his humor and vocal styling in many parts of the world. The experience he had as the lead singer of the world-renowned band "The Society of Seven," and as a regular in Las Vegas and the rest of the Nevada Hotel and Casino circuit, made him the performer he is today. He makes every performance as if it was his last, whether it is in a night club, concert auditorium, hotel ballroom or at a corporate function. A recording artist with hit songs under his belt such as: "Mahiwaga," "Feelings," "Ashes to Ashes," "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me," and  "Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas," a song that earned him a platinum award from Viva Records.

The Years with the Society of Seven

1976. Roberto Nievera and Little Albert leave the group to pursue solo careers. Crooner/Impressionist Jun Polistico and drummer Billy Rivera are signed on as replacements. This is a big change for the group. Tony Ruivivar and Bert Sagum make wise choices. Jun and Billy become immensely popular. Jun is a talented impressionist and Billy is an excellent drummer with a mischievous personality.

1982. SOS puts out a single "I Love You Thru It All." It is released nationally on Network Records. Jun Polistico sings the lead. It makes No. 1 on several local stations and is listed for a short time on the Billboard Charts.

The SOS's lovable pianist Terry Lucido suffers a heart attack. He is incapacitated so it becomes necessary to find a musician to fill in. This turns out to be Mitch Morala. Terry is released from the hospital and begs to go on a road trip with the SOS. For a while, the SOS becomes an eight member band. Terry, frail and weak, passes away on November 3rd in Anaheim.

1983 New Year's Eve - Jun Polistico decides to pursue a solo career.

In February 2004, Volume Productions, Inc. produced his show in Hollywood Scientology Center. Undeniably it was Jun Polistico's night way down to the treasure trove of beautiful melodies of the past. The golden era of those now-immortalized songs in all Karaokes you hear all over the world. Jun proved himself to be a real performer. It was one magical night of mesmerizing music as he sang the standards. The Matt Monroe medley had all the audience singing with him. He laughed with them when he tried to impersonate Neil Diamond, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis and Lionel Ritchie and a Sinatra singing a Lionel Ritchie song. It's amazing how he could weave all their music together and invite the audience to have fun with him too. Only a performer of extensive depth and experience can get away with it.

Proven of international caliber, Jun Polistico has been aptly referred to as Asia's Golden Voice as he belts his ballads mixing his performances with his hilarious medley. Without a doubt, Jun Polistico is still a perennial favorite. His voice, like wine, has aged to perfection. More than this, he has evolved into an electrifying stage performer with a long string of songs and a "dash" of spiritual message to share with a mesmerized audience.
